My sailing days began when I was 10 years
old....I grew up in
Gulf
Breeze, Florida, which is a peninsula between Pensacola and
Pensacola
Beach. This was a perfect
place to grow up sailing!! The water in this area is beautiful.
Pensacola Beach is in many "Top Ten" beaches in the US.
My parents bought an Islander Bahama
24 when I was 10 years old. What a thrilling time we had spending
many days sailing and many nights sleeping aboard the boat, anchored in some
secluded cove.
The Islander Bahama 24 basically was a
sleek designed 24 foot sailboat that slept 5 people and had a galley (kitchen) and a
head (toilet). The boat had no shower facility, that was generally
perform either at the dock with a water hose or at sea in the water!
In the 1960's & 70's, when I
was growing up, there were many private beaches to anchor our
sailboat. After sailing most of the day, we could always find a place
to anchor and relax by swimming where there were no other people.
My parents sold the sailboat after I
was away at college for a year. They sailed only once the first year I
was gone.
TODAY, I still love sailing!! I
have never owned a boat, but I always find a way to go sailing. When I
visit Florida, I go sailing with friends. I now live in Texas. I
at one time belonged to a sailing club where we rented sailboats.
My latest sailing has been on a
friend's 84 foot
motor sailing yacht. It is beautiful!!
Jack has a crew that sails the yacht. We just kick back and
relax!!
